As a published authour (2 books published traditionally and 1 book self-published), columnist, editor and newspaper journalist, I am frequently asked questions about the publishing industry. It's a mammoth and almost impossible endeavour to explain the ins and outs of the publishing industry. It took me many years of focused research and hands-on experience to learn some of the terrain, and  I'd like to help those new to the field by sharing some resources to get you started.

Absolutely Write and The-It-Factor

It's a fact. The most appealing, intriguing or informative manuscript, if it is not cohesive and polished, or if it contains spelling, grammar and style errors, will be consigned to the bottom of a publisher's slush pile never to see the light of day. If such a manuscript is self-published, chances are the book will never make the mark and will result in disappointment, both for the author and any readers who may purchase the book along the way.

For many self-published authors, even those who have experienced the joy of holding their beautifully printed books in their hands, the biggest regret voiced is that the book was not professionally edited before publication.

A poorly edited book loses credibility very quickly. Many inspired or qualified writers excel at creating an amazing story or penning a valuable non-fiction work, but do not excel at the time-consuming and detail intensive task of editing. Many writers are also too close to their own work to see errors in style, grammar or flow, and other crucial writing and editing elements.

Professional editing services can include:

Editorial Evaluation/Critiquing
Copy Editing
Line Editing
Content Editing
Developmental Editing
Ghostwriting and Book Doctoring

At The It Factor, we specialize in Copy and Line Editing, but can also provide any or all of the above services on most submissions on an as-needed basis. Please email us for a personal assessment on your needs and/or more information. Our editing fees are in line with and usually lower than most large industry editorial service providers while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism to help authors through the publishing process. And you can be assured of personal attention and dedication to the success of your work from our editorial team. We have traditional and self-published authors at The It Factor who understand the publishing process from personal and professional experience, and editors who have worked on projects ranging from journalism to magazine editing, non-fiction books (business, inspirational, educational, technical, etc.) to fiction and romance writing.

Copy and line editing is usually priced between 12 to 15 cents per word, although rates may vary depending on your manuscript and requirements.

We can even provide an editorial evaluation for you for a very reasonable fee and based on our feedback, you can contract freelance editing services or a package with another publishing services provider based on the information contained in our report. This can save you a lot of money and resources, as you will only be contracting for the services you really need.

Even the best writers require the skills and the impartiality of an editor to point out any unintentional lapses and to correct or tweak what they may have been just too close to see. Writing is truly a noble profession and a great book, whether it is a timeless classic or a bright new voice will always inspire and uplift our world.

If you are that bright new voice, let The It Factor help ensure that your final work is polished to perfection and has that 'It Factor' shining for all to see.
