Fortune-Telling With Ordinary Poker

Fortune-Telling With Ordinary
Poker Cards
Sept. 8, 2005
c. 2005 Zsuzsana Summer, www.arcanamatrix.com
With the recent upsurge in the popularity of poker, most of us have a
deck or two of playing cards lying around the house. The next time the poker
party ends, why not have a little fun and test out your fortune-telling
abilities?
Fortune-telling with playing cards is an age-old art, and
although Tarot cards have gained immense popularity for divination since their
appearance in the 15th century, there are still readers who swear by ordinary
playing cards as their favored psychic tools.
While Tarot is highly symbolic in its images, symbols, color,
astrological and mystical references, it shares some important basics with
regular playing cards: elements and numbers.
Simply by
learning the meaning of the numbers and the four basic elements represented in a
regular deck of cards, you can shock Aunt Betty by describing her ideal fantasy
man, or baffle your brother-in-law by predicting which
stocks he plan to dump next week.
In a
poker deck, the 4 suits correspond to the 4 basic elements:
Diamonds
(Pentacles in Tarot) represent 'earth' (money, manifesting,
property)
Hearts
(Cups in Tarot) represent 'water' (emotions, relationships, love,
intuition)
Clubs
(Wands in Tarot) represent 'fire' (activity, energy, business,
work)
Spades
(Swords in Tarot) represent 'air' (thoughts, the intellect, conflict and
communication)
The
numbers 1 through 10 relate to qualities or circumstances such
as:
1
(Ace) - beginnings, action; 2 - relationships, duality; 3 - growth,
friendships; 4 - work, foundations; 5 - change, challenges; 6 - beauty, balance;
7 - spirituality, options; 8 - manifesting, success; 9 - integration,
attainment; 10 - wholeness, completion and renewal.
This is
only a very brief description of meanings but you can see that if your friend
asked about how her upcoming yearly review at work was going to go and
the 8 of Clubs turned up, that would be an indication of a good solid
review and maybe even a promotion if thats what she is aiming
for. The Ace of Clubs would also be welcome here, suggesting a new
beginning at work, as would many of the other clubs and even the 8s, 9s and 10s
of other suits, which could represent a YES while providing circumstantial
info.
If your
best friend is wondering if she will hear back from the guy who asked
for her phone number at a party the night before, and the Ace, 2 or 6
of Hearts turns up, chances are good that she'll not only be hearing from
him soon but that this could be the start of a wonderful new relationship. A 5
of Hearts on the other hand, would mean there may be some difficulties
surrounding this relationship materializing right now, and a 7 would suggest
that maybe one or the other person isn't really focused on relationships at this
time or maybe even that the guy is playing the field!
The
Jacks, Queens and Kings represent people with traits corresponding to the suits
(elements). I will be sharing an article on elements, astrology and character
traits shortly. Jacks are young people, Kings and Queens are mature men and
women.

Tarot at: http://www.arcanamatrix.com/articles/index.html
As with all other forms of fortune-telling, remember to keep an open mind
and an attitude of compassion and caring when reading for yourself or others.
Never read for anyone without their agreement and always phrase your predictions
in the spirit of universal love and positive intent.
Unless you have previously studied metaphysics and
developed or fine-tuned your psychic skills, playfully peeking into the future
with poker cards may or may not provide you or your querents (those asking
questions) any earth-shaking revelations. Remember that any predictions or
insights certainly should be taken with not a grain, but a good shake of salt.
But, as we ALL have psychic skills, it is very possible that even without any
formal training, you will find plenty of food for thought and some deliciously
mystical insights from your humble deck of cards, a little study and a healthy
helping of imagination. Just take care to be kind to your victims as they may
be dealing the cards next.

A Bit of Bliss
A Bit of Bliss - It's Not Just
For The Birds
Yesterday was our umpteenth
consecutive heat and smog alert day in the Greater Toronto area this summer. The
weather reporters are earnestly keeping track of the phenomena and glibly
reporting the current count every chance they get, but to me it's just a blur of
lugging the garden hose and watering cans around our large yard, sometimes twice
a day, and trying to revive wilting wisterias and droopy daisies.
I can't remember when we last
had rain, or even air to breathe that wasn't like soup. Not that I'm complaining
about the heat, mind you - and don't tell the Big Guy in the Sky I said anything
either. Being a Canadian, I'm expected to stoically handle and preferably enjoy
our annual 6 months of excruciating cold with its nasty winter blizzards. But
for me, as soon as I see that first snowflake in November, I shudder, shiver and
start counting the days until spring. So mum's the word on anything I say here
that might be construed as being negative about the heat, okay?
In the last dozen years, I've
most definitely been both confounded and worried about the erratic and extreme
weather patterns we've experienced. There was the summer not that long ago when
it rained every single weekend, as well as during the weeks - basically Monday
through Friday, then Saturday and Sunday. I remember it oh-so-clearly because my
then husband and I were building a backyard deck. Well, trying to. Not only were
we and our helpers rained out every single weekend that summer, but every
evening after work, no sooner would we get all the tools hauled out from the
kitchen, it would start to pour, and I mean pour buckets. Deep down inside I
think that deck really wanted to be an ark.
And this year, it's drought.
Oh, yes, there was one brief deluge about a month ago as we were visiting
friends an hour's drive away at their lakeside home - just as everybody had
settled in to sip their morning coffees on the patio. In spite of the strength
of the downpour, it was very localized - black skies pretty much centered above
our heads while the sky across the lake still shimmered with light. So that
downpour probably doesn't figure into the equation - it was just Mother Nature
spitting in our eyes and laughing as she watched some rather bleary-eyed, pajama
clad zombies dash about, tripping over each other to gather up all our
belongings and take shelter inside. A friend and I tried to brave it out, not
wanting the first deck party of the year to be ruined. We sat under a huge patio
umbrella until the coated fabric finally gave way and started to leak big gobs
of cold raindrops on our heads and down our backs. It wasn't until we were well
and truly drenched that we caved in and slopped indoors, drying off just in time
to see the sun come out laughing.
I'm determined to enjoy every
minute I can outdoors throughout our short summer anyway, no matter what the
weather and no matter how fierce the heat has been getting. Several times a day
as I take my little work breaks, I venture outside and part the soupy smog to
get to the backyard swing. As I sat down on the steaming cushions yesterday, I
was thinking about all of nature's poor little creatures who are suffering for
so long without water or relief from the smog.
So, even though it was bright
mid-day, I set up the large fan sprinkler in the backyard near the trees and I
let her rip. I winced a bit when I considered that I might be burning out the
grass and flowers, but my worries were quickly displaced by smiles. The birds
came. And they danced.
I must have sat there for an
hour watching as birds, doves and robins mostly, chattered, chirped and bathed
in the water being sprinkled up into the tree branches and across the walkway.
As soon as the water started to form little pools and puddles, down to the
ground the birds hopped and they splashed away in total delight. Others sat in
the branches and allowed the soft spray to dribble over them each time it
passed. The news about the free shower seemed to spread quickly because after a
short time, our mature crabapple tree didn't seem to have a landing spot left in
its dense branches.
So, this was my entertainment
yesterday. Each time I went outside I turned on the water for the birds, and
then when I had come back in, I would peek out to see them happily grubbing
through the grass too, no doubt finding all kinds of worms and goodies -
probably well-reconstituted too after the watering. Much better than
dehydrated worms I should think.
My husband laughed at me when
I described the day's excitement to him last night, and as I'd expected,
remarked on the cost of the water consumption. But he sat with me and watched as
I treated the birds to one last shower before bedtime, and the thought of the
relief they enjoyed still has me smiling today. I sure hope my feathered
visitors told all their friends, too, about the 'happening spot' on Melissa
Crescent, because I'm heading back out shortly.
It reminds me of the starfish
story, about the young boy on the beach tossing back grounded starfish into the
ocean one by one after the tide had gone out. A man passing by asked him what he
was doing and the boy replied that he was trying to save them by tossing them
back. The man commented that there were likely thousands of beached starfish on
the coast and asked "Can't you see that you can't possibly make a difference?"
The boy just bent down and picked up another starfish and threw it back into the
ocean. With a smile he replied, "Made a difference to that one!"
A Frequent Visitor
Hi Everyone:
We had something funny happen here a few days ago that I'd like to share. One
of my cats, Mystic, is forever playing with some unseen entities in the house -
it has both me and my s/o (who is a total non-believer) puzzled. A few days ago,
Mystic was acting all nutty again. Just prior to that I'd had some strange
noises and things happen, and my s/o and I were talking about it. All of a
sudden, my s/o glances down the front hallway from the living room and looks
startled. When I ask what it is, he says, 'where are the cats? I just saw one of
them zip across the front hallway.' Well, both of our cats were sitting right
there in our living room.
I grabbed my little digital recorder and immediately started to walk all
around the house snapping pictures, to see if anything would come out on the
photos. Sure enough, although the rest of the photos were all normal, the very
first one I snapped of our empty front hallway shows a clear orb on it. Another
pic taken there 2 or 3 minutes later show nothing.
This is one of my favourite 'captures' because even my resident 'Doubting
Thomas' was convinced this time that something was there:>

The Voices of Little Children
A few days ago, someone posted to a group that she
was 'hearing' the sounds of children crying and wondering what this message
portended.
Well, her message started pounding in my brain when
the news story about the hostage taking tragedy in Beslan, Russia appeared on
the news.
Please, let's all send a massive wave of love and
light to all the victims of this horrible event.
Last night, amidst a jumble of dreams, I dreamed
that 2 little children, a boy and a girl, were following me around and at one
point, were standing outside the windows of my house looking in. I also dreamed
that I was getting repeated phone calls from a nice man named Mattie, but I
could never get to the phone on time and someone was always taking messages for
me.
Well, first thing this morning, I see a bulletin
about this weekend's Muscular Dystrophy Telethon being held in honour of Mattie
J. Stepanek, the courageous and compassionate young poet who passed over earlier
this year. And then, a post about the school tragedy which got me to thinking
that maybe those 2 little ones in my dream were souls of some of the children
who had lost their lives in the incident.
And perhaps, since they were not able to fully
connect with me, Mattie is helping then on the other side?
I hope so.

Synchronicities
Strange things are going on in my house
today.
There is no-one here today but me and the fur
kids:> This morning, I was startled by a huge crash on the main floor and
when I went to investigate, I found that a tall, painted container which sits on
top of the toilet in the powder room had crashed to the floor, spilling its
contents. I was rather surprised and called out right away to the cats. One of
them occasionally climbs up on things, and he meowed from somewhere nearby when
I called but I couldn't ascertain if he was the culprit or not. Then I put the
matter down to the fact that the window was open and maybe somehow the wind had
made the curtain catch into the container.
Then a few minutes ago, there was a huge crash from
downstairs. I ran down, thinking again that maybe one of the cats had knocked
something over. The dog was just as startled as I was and stayed close to my
heels as I went to investigate.
I found that a large chime I've had for many years,
made out of sea shells strung together, had crashed from where it hangs above my
kitchen window right into the sink. I picked it up immediately, checking for
damage. It is only a little chipped here and there. I checked the hook it hangs
on, which is still firmly screwed into the bulkhead above the sink. Then I
checked the chime's hanger - tripled looped fishing wire, and that is also
intact. In fact, everything is intact but the few chipped seashells. When I
realized this, I immediately said 'OK, who's there?' - no answer. So it occurred
to me to check the time on the phone display and it read 3:13. This was maybe a
minute or two after the event happened. I rearranged the chime and then on a
whim, went back into the powder room to look at the container that had fallen
over earlier, and I realized that the curtain clears it by an inch or two so
there is no way the wind knocked it over. So unless it was my
cat?.......
All this done, I grabbed a glass of water and
headed back up to my computer. As I sat down to type this, I realized that now
my computer clock was showing 3:13 *grin*. I know the clocks aren't
synchronized, but I just found it funny that I looked at each clock when it was
showing the same time.
Strange, isn't it:>

Tree Hugging
Tree Hugging - Anywhere, Anytime
A couple of weeks ago, my Mom and her gentleman
friend came to visit us in Whitby for a weekend. On a sunny Saturday afternoon,
the four of us headed out to a waterfront festival in Cobourg, which a quaint
town not far away from us along the shores of Lake Ontario.
As we stepped off the shuttle bus which took us
right to the fairgrounds, my Mom pointed out an unusual lilac tree with
gorgeous, aromatic white flowers, and the two of us wiggled through the crowds
at the corner to see the blooms up close. We took turns leaning close to the
tree which was smack-dab in front of the busy bus stop and along the main
traffic route to the festival, and we gently touched some of the blooms to bring
them to our faces for some deep, satisfying sniffs. As we stepped backwards,
being careful not to disturb the other plantings underneath the tree, a
long-haired young man, probably in his 30's and dressed in bohemian style
clothing, leaped over the plantings between Mom and me. He was laughing as he
gave the tree a huge hug and said to us 'If you love the tree, why don't you
just hug it?'
We smiled and joked back with him, and everyone
nearby was enjoying his happy outburst. It reminded me of a house we lived in
some years ago, which had two beautiful old maple trees out front. We were at a
busy intersection just off the main road, but every so often I would step
outside and, not able to resist, I would hug those tress for all the world to
see. try it sometime - some people might look at you a bit funny, but many
others will silently applaud your courage in openly connecting with Mother
Nature. And I promise, both you and the earth will benefit from your
connection.
